2009 has been a challenging year. Many of us have lost jobs, investments and savings. We hear daily of young American men and women killed in wars far away from home. So as we approach the holidays, it is easy to reflect on what we no longer have. But perhaps this year, we should make a special effort to stop and reflect on what we do have.
We still rejoice in family and friends, those that love and care about us. We still have a roof over our heads and food on our tables. We still live in a wonderful and free country. And perhaps most importantly, we know that the difficult days of 2009 will pass. There definitely will be better times ahead.  A recent study showed that patients experienced with eye drop instillation used an average of 1.8 drops per use — almost double the prescribed dose of 1 drop. As an eye only holds about a half a drop, most of the dose was wasted, patients ran out of medicine early and incurred additional costs to make up the difference. Some patients used their drops at inadequate levels or not at all. Also, the study found that 98% of patients did not wash their hands prior to administration and 40% had difficulty instilling the drop without touching the eye.
