- Medical Exam - evaluates complaints such as floaters, infections, cataracts, glaucoma, retinal and other systemic diseases that may affect your eyes.
- Refraction - routine portion of the exam which determines the lens prescription you will need for glasses and/or contact lenses.
Your insurance may pay for one or both parts of the exam. Many medical insurances only pay for the medical portion of your exam and consider the refraction portion "routine care" so they will NOT pay the $40 refraction charge.
Vision insurances pay for "routine care". They MAY NOT cover your complete eye exam if there is a medical condition present. If so, your medical insurance will cover the medical portion of the exam.
Whatever portion NOT covered by your insurance plans, as well as any necessary co-pays, will be your responsibility.
Should you have any questions regarding these issues, please feel free to call our office or ask any of our staff when you come in for your appointment.
NOTE: Contact lens wearers MUST have a complete eye exam (includes both the medical exam and refraction) to receive a NEW contact lens prescription.
