About Dr. David Carlin

Dr. David Carlin is a board-certified ophthalmologist at CarlinVision in Snellville, Georgia, serving patients throughout Gwinnett County with more than two decades of advanced surgical and clinical expertise. A lifelong member of the Gwinnett community, Dr. Carlin completed his undergraduate studies at Tufts University before earning his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina — capping more than twelve years of higher education and specialty training before returning home to practice.

Dr. Carlin joined his father, CarlinVision founder Dr. Richard Carlin, helping build what has become the longest-standing father-and-son ophthalmology practice in Gwinnett County. With thousands of surgeries performed and a reputation for exceptional patient outcomes, he is one of the most trusted and sought-after eye surgeons in the greater Atlanta area.

Dr. Carlin’s surgical and clinical expertise includes cataract surgery, LASIK and refractive surgery, glaucoma diagnosis and management, cosmetic eyelid surgery, functional eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), and the treatment of complex ocular disease. He is certified on the Zeimer® Z8 LDV femtosecond laser and the Alcon® LenSx laser, two of the most advanced platforms available for laser cataract and vision correction surgery in the Snellville and Lawrenceville area.

Dr. Carlin holds Diplomate status with the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology — reflecting his commitment to staying at the forefront of evolving treatments and technologies in eye care. He has a long history of community service as well, including volunteering with the Lions Club to provide vision screenings for underserved populations throughout Gwinnett County.

Outside the office, Dr. Carlin is married to Heather and together they have three sons — twins Jake and Dylan and younger son Ryan — along with their rescue dog, Lily. He enjoys fitness, golf, boating, and fishing when he’s not caring for patients.

Dr. Carlin is a highly experienced, board-certified ophthalmologist and Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology with more than five decades of experience in vision care and surgical innovation. A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan before serving in the United States Navy in Key West, Florida. In 1977, he founded CarlinVision and has since built a longstanding reputation for excellence in LASIK, cataract surgery, refractive procedures, and cosmetic eyelid surgery. Throughout his career, Dr. Carlin has completed more than 11,000 procedures and remains at the forefront of advanced laser and refractive technologies. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and an active member of multiple leading professional organizations, reflecting his enduring commitment to clinical excellence and patient care.
