About Dr. David Carlin
A lifelong member of the Gwinnett community, Dr. David Carlin is a highly experienced ophthalmologist who brings more than two decades of advanced clinical
and surgical expertise to CarlinVision. After completing his undergraduate studies at Tufts University in Boston, Dr. Carlin earned his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School and went on to complete an intensive ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina.
Following twelve years of education and pecialty training, Dr. Carlin returned home to join his father, Dr. Richard Carlin, helping build what has become the longest-standing and most established father-and-son ophthalmology practice in Gwinnett County. With thousands of surgeries performed and a reputation for exceptional patient care, Dr. Carlin is now one of the region’s most trusted and sought-after eye surgeons.
Dr. Carlin is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also an active member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. In addition to his clinical work, he has a long history of community service, including volunteering with the Lions Club to provide vision screening for underserved populations.
Dr. Carlin’s professional expertise spans cataract and refractive surgery, glaucoma, cosmetic and functional eyelid surgery, and the diagnosis and management of complex ocular disease. He is committed to staying at the forefront of evolving technologies and techniques, ensuring his patients receive the highest standard of modern eye care.
Dr. Carlin is married to Heather, and together they have three sons—Jake and Dylan, twins born in 2009, and Ryan, born in 2012, as well as their beloved rescue dog, Lily. Outside of the office, he enjoys fitness, golf, boating, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Carlin is a highly experienced, board-certified ophthalmologist and Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology with more than five decades of experience in vision care and surgical innovation. A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan before serving in the United States Navy in Key West, Florida. In 1977, he founded CarlinVision and has since built a longstanding reputation for excellence in LASIK, cataract surgery, refractive procedures, and cosmetic eyelid surgery. Throughout his career, Dr. Carlin has completed more than 11,000 procedures and remains at the forefront of advanced laser and refractive technologies. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and an active member of multiple leading professional organizations, reflecting his enduring commitment to clinical excellence and patient care.
