Fact or mythThe 12-year data from the FDA study of the original PRK and LASIK, as well as other studies, show that Lasik does not “wear off”. Refractions remain very constant over the years. Indeed, Dr. Richard Carlin’s late enhancement rate after LASIK has remained around 1% which, admittedly, is why we can offer FREE ENHANCEMENTS for life for all our Lasik patients!

There are two main reasons for the perception by some that Lasik can “wear off”:

  • As we age the eye’s lens hardens. So during our 40s, it is unable to focus for near requiring the use of reading glasses.
  • As we age cataracts and other conditions occur, which may need to be addressed.

It is NOT the cornea that changes after Lasik but the lens or other parts of the eye.
