A Letter to Our Patients
As we approach the holiday season and end of the year, we want to express our deepest gratitude for allowing us the privilege of being your eye care provider.
Your trust in CarlinVision means a great deal to us and we do not take it lightly. We still believe that the practice of medicine is a noble profession. As physicians, we believe it is our responsibility to act only in the best interests of our patients to provide the best possible outcomes, to continue our education to provide the latest and most current treatments, and most importantly, to treat patients in a friendly and caring way while being open and honest when inevitable complications occur. It is a responsibility we hold with the utmost care and dedication. It is the essence found in our name “Carlin’s Vision.” We understand that in the current climate of physician retirement and private equity taking over doctor practices, it leads to obvious loss of personal care; however, we still believe that the doctor-patient relationship is unique and special and we are honored to be fighting the trend by continuing to provide the kind of personalized care that we know you want and deserve.
With that being said, we appreciate you for working with us in this battle and following our recommendations and our proactive approach to healthcare. It has made our job more fulfilling and has contributed to the success of your treatments. We also want to acknowledge the courage and resilience you’ve shown in the face of vision challenges. Your strength is truly inspiring and it motivates us in our pursuit of excellence and our commitment to continuously improving our services to meet your needs.
As we approach this holiday season, we wish you and your loved ones joy, good health, and moments of peace. May the coming year be filled with positive developments and continued progress on your life’s journey.
The Benefits of Lasik
LASIK is the popular surgical procedure used to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. It involves reshaping the cornea, the transparent front part of the eye, using a laser. It’s benefits include:
- Improved Vision: LASIK improves vision and reduces or eliminates the need for glasses or contact lenses.
- Convenience: Swimming, playing sports, or simply waking up in the morning and being able to see without corrective eyewear.
- Cost Savings: While there is a significant upfront investment, the long-term cost of LASIK is lower than the cumulative cost of purchasing and maintaining corrective lenses.
- Quick Recovery: Most patients experience improved vision within a day or two and are back to their normal activities.
- Increased Confidence: The aesthetic aspect of not needing glasses or contacts often contributes to increased self-confidence.
- Enhanced Career Opportunities: Jobs in the military, law enforcement, or certain medical fields may have vision standards that LASIK can help individuals meet.
It is important to note that while LASIK can be a highly effective and safe procedure for many individuals, it may not be suitable for everyone. Overall health and specific eye conditions can impact eligibility for LASIK. As with any procedure, it’s crucial to consults with us during a FREE EVALUATION to determine the most appropriate course of action based on individual circumstances.
Scariest Eye Remedies on the Internet
Eye Yoga: Eye exercises to improve vision and reduce eye strain: There is absolutely no scientific evidence to support this.
Essential Oils: Touted as a natural remedy for various eye problems: They can be dangerous if applied directly to or around the eyes with the exception of low concentrations of tea tree oil which may treat Demodex mites in the eyelashes.
Breast Milk: Used as a natural remedy for pink eye: It does not work and also contains bacteria which can cause secondary, serious sight-threatening infections.
Beezin’: Rubbing Burt’s Bees flavored lip balms on the eyelids to feel more alert: This can irritate the eyes causing redness and irritation.
Raw Meat Cold Pack: Using a cold steak on a black eye: The bacteria in the meat can cause infection. Use ice packs of crushed ice in a clean towel.
What Causes Bags Under your Eyes?
As we age, the tissues around the eye weaken and sag. The membrane that keeps the fat that cushions the eye back loses its tone and allows the fat to bulge forward into the lower eyelids. This makes them appear swollen and puffy. Fluid pools in the lid leading to edema. Other factors include not getting enough sleep, smoking, allergies, fluid retention and family history. Home remedies may include cold compresses, sleeping 7-9 hours daily, elevating the head at night, avoid drinking fluids before bed, limiting salt in the diet, not smoking, treating allergies and avoiding eye rubbing. Finally, a lower lid blepharoplasty which surgically removes the bags may provide the ultimate cosmetic relief.
Presbyopia:
One of the first signs of aging is presbyopia, which is the loss of the ability to see things up close. From the Greek meaning “old eye,” it occurs to all of us, generally during our 40s but earlier if you are farsighted and later if you are nearsighted. It’s first noted when tired or in poor light, improved by holding reading material further away, or when taking your glasses off to read if nearsighted.
The cause is hardening of the eye’s lens. This dysfunctionality actually starts much earlier in childhood, but as there is so much flexibility with residual focusing power, it doesn’t become significant until the majority of it is lost. The process is inevitable and happens to everyone!
Your options include reading glasses, bifocals, eye drops, monovision (focusing one eye for far and one for near) with contact lenses or LASIK, or refractive lens exchange, which is a surgical procedure where bifocal lenses are placed in the eyes.
